I look forward each fall to new Barna surveys on the spiritual trends of the nation. At a time when there is a growing cost to being a Christian in our culture, many would view these surveys with dread. I am, however, an optimist so I read opportunity into these surveys. With an apology to those who would read negative to this survey, let me paint the path ahead for IBG.
Barna’s recent Spiritually Open Survey looked at Spiritual Openness among non-Christians. Since the purpose of our ministry is to provide God’s Word to people who need it, this survey is spot on – it is our target audience. 52% of those surveyed were not spiritually open, but 48% were. The survey covered 4 general questions about spirituality – not specifically Christian spirituality – to see how open people are. The 48 % answered positively to either 3 or all 4 questions, which included if they believed in God or a higher power.Read More
